5 Years of Blogging? Oh the Things I Have Done!

Today is the day. The day I am going to do it. Today, I am going to try my hardest not to feel guilty, not to feel bad, not to feel stressed.

Today, I am announcing the first break I’ve officially taken in over 5 years of blogging my ideas and inspiration boards for weddings, parties, celebrations, soirees, and holidays.

Did you know that before I started Unique Pastiche Events, I was blogging on my other blog, A Sparkly Life for Me (formerly The Sparkle Queen)? I was! That’s where all of this all began, with The Sparkle Queen: Events. After creating a number of themed event decor boards, I knew I wanted to be blogging my ideas weekly, and thus the beginning of Unique Pastiche Events.

Since starting this site back in 2013, I have been posting themed party ideas every week. EVERY WEEK. That’s a lot of ideas! And as much as I love doing it, sharing all the ideas, posting links to talented designers and creatives from around the globe, I need a break. I am fortunate to have a job in the events industry where I can design creative and unique events for my clients. I am also lucky to have found a new spark of passion and inspiration in my DIY blogging during my 2017 tablescaping challenge. At least twice a month I’ve been sharing tablescapes and table decor for your home, based largely on DIY elements (which I share video tutorials for), as well as items I find at the thrift stores, clearance sections, tag sales – you name it! My goal is to help generate some amazing tablescapes that are Pinterest worthy, in the comfort of my own home, without breaking the bank!

This new chapter in my blogging timeline has really captivated my attention, and I see myself diving into more in the future as time allows. I know I can create some wonderful designs with a bit more time and energy able to be devoted to these creations.

So with that being said, I hope you check out my site and see what I’m creating this month for my tablescaping challenge. In the meantime, I’m going to be taking a break from my weekly posts here at Unique Pastiche Events. When I’m ready to come back and dive into sharing ideas and concept boards, I will. Who knows, maybe I’ll post now and again as inspiration comes to me. But for now, I want to divert all my extra time outside of work and life, to developing more video DIY tutorials and tablescapes to help bring a little sparkle and joy into our homes and lives.

I hope you join me on my next adventure!

Feminine Soiree in Blush and White – Event Decor Ideas

It’s the simple things sometimes that make events great. A good color combination. A fantastic live band. Amazing food served to perfection. I often think that it’s the event decor and concept behind the event that makes it not just memorable, but enjoyable.

Now I’m not saying you have to go all out themed to the max or anything. But a little thought and a little planning go a long way, For example, a few weeks ago I shared this sophisticated blush and gold decor ideas board, perfect for any number of events. It’s traditional, elegant, sophisticated. It looks like it is a higher end event, not because of the blush pink, white, and gold. No, it looks so refined because of the strategic use of items and shapes combined.

Using those same colors: blush pink, white, and gold- I am able to create many feels to an event. For example, the board below is the same color combination, but with a modern flair, with an emphasis on feminine softness to it. Here’s what I had in mind for this take on a feminine soiree in blush and white:

Modern Event Reception in Turquoise and Yellow (with a Touch of Paisley)

Years ago, and I mean YEARS ago, back when I started sharing these weekly wedding and party inspiration boards, I created an ideas board for a turquoise and yellow wedding, with a hint of paisley. That was 4 years ago, FOUR.

I like to think a lot has changed in the fluidity and cohesiveness of my boards. My inspiration has changed, and my interests have switched from weddings to more social and fundraising events and themes. Periodically I like to go back and look at some of my earlier work, revamp it, and take a stab at it with all of the new ideas being shared these days.

This week, I look back at my turquoise and yellow event, and bring it into a more modern and warmer design concept, with turquoise blue, bright yellow, and chartreuse green all mixed in. A little paisley print thrown in with the linens adds interesting contrast, while the colorful lounges and additional solid linens help balance out all the colors.

Here’s what I had in mind for this modern take on a turquoise and yellow event with a touch of paisley and wood:

Race to the Finish Line – Racing Inspired Reception Ideas

This is getting out of control! A few weeks ago I shared an inspiration board on a fun, vintage feeling classic cars party. A few weeks before that, a party inspired by a mechanics garage. This week? A high end – race to the finish line racing inspired reception ideas. Will this trend end? I don’t know!

Part of it, or at least part of what I’m chalking it up to, is Pinterest’s ability to integrate things you have searched for into your feed, because you’ve clearly shown interest in it. Maybe all these ideas have been subconsciously making me want to keep curating car themed parties? I suppose we will never know. Don’t worry, I’ve been pinning all of my favorite classic car, race car, monster truck, NASCAR party ideas all on THIS board.

For this “race to the finish line” party ideas board, I really wanted to keep it modern and more traditional racing, which is why you see lots of red with the classic white and black checkers. To keep it feeling modern, I made sure the lounge groupings and furniture set ups had that nice clean look with the texture in the metal, with a pretty sweet metal bar.

Midsummer Night’s Gala Event Decor Ideas

A fantastical feast awaits those who attend this midsummer night’s gala! All the stops are brought out for this magical evening. Lush greenery and twinkling lights are at every corner with wrapping vines and warm glowing hues spilling out from the corners and shadows. This enchanted midsummer night’s gala event decor ideas board has a little touch of modern influence to it. The shape and set up of the food display lends itself to trends of today, while the indoor garden lawn lounge allows guests to feel as if they are wandering through a magical forest.

Galas, parties, fundraisers, and even weddings with high guest counts will be the type of events that really make this concept shine. With a high guest count, more space is needed to accommodate those guests, and with that extra space allows for these cohesive, yet distinct separate spaces. A vine covered dining space, a lush lawn for mingling and lounging, and even a quite garden space with a few acoustic musicians. The key to a successful midsummer night’s gala is the decor, and making sure lots of fresh greenery and florals of all sorts of shapes and textures are incorporated.

Here are some of my favorite midsummer nights’ gala event decor ideas:

Confetti Balloon Summertime Party

Glitter may be the herpes of the craft world, but confetti is its equal in the realm of parties.

There’s something about these massive clear balloons with colorful confetti that is so light and airy, but still creates a festive, high energy feeling. Plus, the cleanup is much easier than just putting confetti everywhere! The oversized circle confetti plays off the oversized balloons, making proportions a feature of the decor. The same confetti circles used as a photo booth backdrop make a white wall really pop, and is easy to make. Smaller, confetti filled balloons gathered together as a centerpiece make an excellent complement to the look as well.

If you are worried about your next get-together looking a little drab and low energy, mix it up and throw a confetti balloon summertime party! Use this contained confetti to bring in a whimsy playfulness to your party, without having to deal with the mess of it all. A clever invitation and a few smart and strategic decor pieces can transform the vibe of any party instantly. From bridal showers, to birthday parties, to baby showers, confetti balloons can be your saving grace, especially in a last minute soiree.

Classic Cars of the 50’s Party Ideas

This week we are taking it back to the fifties, party people! That’s right, a classic cruisers of the 50’s party ideas board awaits you!

A few weeks ago when I was working on my mechanic’s garage car themed party, I stumbled onto a ton of fantastic car related decor, for all sorts of different styles. Now, of course I pinned my favorites to my car and racing party ideas board on Pinterest, but I save a few just for this week’s classic car themed party.

Amazingly, I happened to have stumbled onto a venue that actually looks like a classic garage already – complete with cars! From there I built up the rest of the classic cars party decor ideas that would complement the space, without being too distracting. To me, the 50s era for party decoration was not as layered and intense as some of today’s modern parties, and with that I think it’s important to try and reflect that in the event decor, even if it is all hypothetical! That’s why there is a lot of simple white linens and flowers, with a few colorful accents here and there. Let the classic cruiser cars be the highlight, I say! Let the cars shine and the music play, as they will do more for setting the mood then any flower arrangement or tablecloth will. Here’s what I had in mind:

Colorful Wildflower Party Ideas

Normally I try to have a really thoughtful and heavily themed party decor ideas board to share with you. But this week, I don’t! I’m just so inspired by these colorful and free flowing wildflower elements I’ve found lately, that they really don’t NEED to be in some themed event. They ARE the theme. Having big arrangements of long stem wild flowers with lots of greenery but with every color of the rainbow involved, makes it such an eye catching and energy infused event, whatever the event is for.

To me, this colorful wildflower party ideas board gives off this boho glam garden party. No one is really sitting on the floor, maybe there is one of those beautiful white tents on a lawn, but there is also no formal tea service and scones getting handed out by fancy butlers. I could see this working for a lovely daytime wedding, baby or bridal showers, or maybe even a fundraiser luncheon.

Enough dreaming up in the clouds, let’s take a look at this colorful wildflower party decor ideas board:

Navy Blue and Sunshine Yellow Summer Soiree Ideas

Some things just go together, like chocolate and peanut butter, or salt and pepper. In a not so foody sense, so does blue and yellow. One of my most favorite color combinations for the summer in blue and yellow, because I find that it tends to be greatly underused. It can be feminine or masculine, formal or informal, but still retain a quality to it that makes it appropriate to be used for guests of honor of all ages. It’s all about how you incorporate the colors!

Texture is always at the top of my mind when I am putting together this party idea boards, so when I was dreaming up this navy blue and sunshine yellow summer soiree ideas board, it was important to me to figure out where the texture and dimension would be. For this particular event, I opted to have the smaller scale texture double as the yellow, as lots of fresh sunshine yellow flowers are used to run down the table and make perfect centerpieces and room decor. To help create a larger sense of texture, but also integrate the navy blue, I decided to use oversized tissue paper pompoms that included yellow, navy blue, but also some neutrals such as gray and white via additional paper lanterns.

With such a colorful table full of contrast, and a well decorated dessert spread, it’s easy to host this summer soiree party, without it looking too nautical or themed. Here’s what I had in mind for this navy blue and sunshine yellow summer soiree:

Disco Ball Party Decor

You know how sometimes, people say “Let’s host a summer luau party” and a lot of the time the initial reaction is “EEEHHHH” because it’s been SO commercialized and become less and less authentic, and incredibly predicable and cheesy? I think the poor disco ball has also waltzed into that arena. It’s hard to work with disco balls and make them look high end. The proportions, proper lighting, and necessary ambiance needed to really pull them off is hard to do. Then there are the other questions that come up, such as what type of party is this? Is it a neon party themed? Or just disco balls? Can you even use disco balls without other decor?

This week I’ve put together a disco ball party decor ideas board to help navigate and inspire your inner decorator. I think the key is to work with lots of quantities, you can’t just have one big disco ball over the dance floor, and to work with lots of different sizes. There is a reason people are fascinated with the disco ball; it’s just so shiny! So to keep the focus where it should be, I’ve opted to make the focal “color”, if you will, white. It’s not really a focus, but it’s what everyone else will be seeing in the areas not touched by the disco ball decor. Plus, white is an excellent background to make the disco ball effects pop on!
