Disco Ball Party Decor

You know how sometimes, people say “Let’s host a summer luau party” and a lot of the time the initial reaction is “EEEHHHH” because it’s been SO commercialized and become less and less authentic, and incredibly predicable and cheesy? I think the poor disco ball has also waltzed into that arena. It’s hard to work with disco balls and make them look high end. The proportions, proper lighting, and necessary ambiance needed to really pull them off is hard to do. Then there are the other questions that come up, such as what type of party is this? Is it a neon party themed? Or just disco balls? Can you even use disco balls without other decor?

This week I’ve put together a disco ball party decor ideas board to help navigate and inspire your inner decorator. I think the key is to work with lots of quantities, you can’t just have one big disco ball over the dance floor, and to work with lots of different sizes. There is a reason people are fascinated with the disco ball; it’s just so shiny! So to keep the focus where it should be, I’ve opted to make the focal “color”, if you will, white. It’s not really a focus, but it’s what everyone else will be seeing in the areas not touched by the disco ball decor. Plus, white is an excellent background to make the disco ball effects pop on!

Here’s what I had in mind for my disco ball party decor:

Modern Mirror Event Decor Ideas

Looking for a clean and modern event decor concept for an upcoming event? Have you considered creating something that will really stand out, like a modern geodesic mirror theme? With plenty of wow elements, balanced out by clean, modern lines, this concept is sure to have guests talking for days. I love the idea of a dramatic entrance that gets guests thinking they are in for one thing, and then have that massive impact moment when they realize it’s the exact opposite of what they thought they were going to walk into, which is exactly what happens in this week’s modern mirror event decor ideas board.

Guests walk in through a dark but dimensional room, with hints of the geometrical mirror, and then the next thing they know, they are out in the open of a bright outdoor space, layered in sculptural mirror elements and complimentary white furniture. To me, this decor design concept could easily translate into a hyper-modern conference reception, scaled to fit any sized summer wedding, or even be thrown for a unique birthday or social celebration. It’s the sculptural, multi-faceted mirror decor that really creates the “wow” in this event, which lends this theme to all sorts of creative functions.

Manicured Garden Soiree Ideas

I’m not saying this because green is my favorite color, I’m saying it because it’s true: green is an amazing color. Not just for events, though that is true too, but for all sorts of decor. Green is one of those few colors that is good year round, any season. It’s welcomed at just about every holiday, from a lively bright green to a dark and rich emerald green. It can soften and lighten a room, or intensify and enrich the space it is in. Shades of green have such a wide range of effects, it’s no wonder that green is always in style and often used at events.

This week I thought I would try to re-envision on of my earliest party idea boards, still found on my other blog, A Sparkly Life for Me (you can see the original idea board HERE). Partially inducing excitement, and the other part a bit of cringing (why the need for balloons?!), I like to look back and see what fresh new twists I could come up with on previous concepts. Plus, I think I’m on a green kick at the moment!

I thought I’d start with keeping that brilliant emerald green and gold concept from my original challenge, transforming it into a manicured garden soiree, still elevated, still formal, but with the emphasis on the emerald green. The gold, now with mirrors, would be subtle but well placed in strategic points throughout the decor. Boxwood hedges, cubes, arrangements, and topiary would be the defining decor at this event.

Pops of Polka Dots Soiree Inspiration

You know those days, where you just see something and it’s just lovely? It’s bright and cheery, and just brings a smile to your face when you see it? Maybe it’s a bunch of fresh flowers. Or maybe it’s a decadent dessert in a bakery window. There’s something special other there for everyone, custom tailored to make that person’s day.

For me, something that brings a huge smile to my face is my inspiration boards. I always love making them, and I am especially fond of the ones that instill an extra sense of happiness when looking at them, even on an unconscious level. There’s just something about this week’s idea board that sparks that in me, and I hope it has that effect on you too.

This week, I wanted to create a bright, cheery board sure to brighten up your day, and hopefully your guest’s days too. This theme can be used for a wedding or gala, a fundraiser, milestone anniversary party, or toned down to be a baby shower or luncheon color theme.

The touches of polka dots really help add the fun to this black and white inspiration board with those accents in yellow. Here’s what I had in mind:

Mirrors and Chandeliers {Glamorous Evening Wedding Inspiration}

Mirrors and Chandeliers {Glamorous Evening Wedding Inspiration}

Mirrors and Chandeliers {Glamorous Evening Wedding Inspiration}

This week’s event inspiration is all about the glam! Mirrors and chandeliers, silver and black create this amazing event design. What I love most about this idea is that while it has a very lux feel to it, it COULD be done on a smaller scale.

Think about it, not all of the mirrors and chandeliers used are exactly the same. With a little planning, and a lot of time at flea markets and thrift shops, this event could be achieved by any DIYer out there patient enough to keep on hunting.

Key elements to this event:

  • Black and silver accents -these compliment the mirrors and chandeliers without taking the focus off of them
  • Lighting – this is a no brainer. You are going to need quite the team to hang all of these chandeliers and get them working. And mirrors are just no good without some light to reflect.
  • Evening – the later in the day, the better. To really make the glam feel of this event come to life, you are going to want the chandeliers to be the light of the night, and that just won’t happen in the afternoon lighting.
