Disco Ball Party Decor

You know how sometimes, people say “Let’s host a summer luau party” and a lot of the time the initial reaction is “EEEHHHH” because it’s been SO commercialized and become less and less authentic, and incredibly predicable and cheesy? I think the poor disco ball has also waltzed into that arena. It’s hard to work with disco balls and make them look high end. The proportions, proper lighting, and necessary ambiance needed to really pull them off is hard to do. Then there are the other questions that come up, such as what type of party is this? Is it a neon party themed? Or just disco balls? Can you even use disco balls without other decor?

This week I’ve put together a disco ball party decor ideas board to help navigate and inspire your inner decorator. I think the key is to work with lots of quantities, you can’t just have one big disco ball over the dance floor, and to work with lots of different sizes. There is a reason people are fascinated with the disco ball; it’s just so shiny! So to keep the focus where it should be, I’ve opted to make the focal “color”, if you will, white. It’s not really a focus, but it’s what everyone else will be seeing in the areas not touched by the disco ball decor. Plus, white is an excellent background to make the disco ball effects pop on!

Here’s what I had in mind for my disco ball party decor:

14 Concrete Block Centerpieces for Any Event

Steampunk may be falling out of style on Pinterest, but the industrial chic revolution is really starting to pick up in the weddings and party decor categories. Everyone is looking for interesting plays on mixing softness with the rough edges of industrial decor. I have found a ton of great ideas this year, and have been pinning them as I find them HERE. I’ve even shared several party and wedding ideas boards with an industrial flair to them, you can see those HERE.

Centerpiece are a tricky element in the industrial event decor scene. You don’t want too many flowers, as that can take away from the desired look, but then what do you do? It’s already hard enough to come up with centerpiece with no floral at all, that aren’t just boring regular candles. So what’s a girl to do?

Why not incorporate some concrete blocks into your decor? I’ve put together 14 of my favorite cement block centerpieces. From simple to layered, I think you’ll find at least one that you will like. Here are my top 14 concrete block centerpiece ideas:

Modern Mirror Event Decor Ideas

Looking for a clean and modern event decor concept for an upcoming event? Have you considered creating something that will really stand out, like a modern geodesic mirror theme? With plenty of wow elements, balanced out by clean, modern lines, this concept is sure to have guests talking for days. I love the idea of a dramatic entrance that gets guests thinking they are in for one thing, and then have that massive impact moment when they realize it’s the exact opposite of what they thought they were going to walk into, which is exactly what happens in this week’s modern mirror event decor ideas board.

Guests walk in through a dark but dimensional room, with hints of the geometrical mirror, and then the next thing they know, they are out in the open of a bright outdoor space, layered in sculptural mirror elements and complimentary white furniture. To me, this decor design concept could easily translate into a hyper-modern conference reception, scaled to fit any sized summer wedding, or even be thrown for a unique birthday or social celebration. It’s the sculptural, multi-faceted mirror decor that really creates the “wow” in this event, which lends this theme to all sorts of creative functions.

Here’s what I had in mind for each element in this modern mirror event decor concept:

Unusual Ways to Incorporate Green at Your Next Event

Have you ever seen something that was just so weird, so unusual, maybe so out there – that it just worked? And maybe at another point in time in the not too distant future, you find yourself looking at something that is incredibly predicable?

The later of those two thoughts happens far too often, at least for me, at events. Someone tried to be trendy by making a table full of “Greenery”, because Pantone made it the color of the year. But they just over did it. At the beginning of the year, I shared THIS post on how to include greenery into your corporate event. Like many corporate events, I took a very clean but modern approach to this decor. And I stand by it. I can think of a lot of corporate events that would do well by those concepts.

But what about the high end galas, which are counting on wowing guests for donations? Or the social event for a great cause? Or, the brand that is launching their new line and really want to make an impact at the launch party. These types of events are often burdened with the sometimes overwhelming task of what theme to channel. Sure, there are a million “Night in Paris” or casino themed events. I’ve said it a million times before, and I’ll probably say it a million more, but I continuously challenge planners, creative directors, and designers to try something new!

With shades of green, and of course greenery, being on point this year, I thought I would start to see a lot more unique and unusual green event decor circulating. But I haven’t! So to help get your creative ideas firing, I’ve put together some of my favorite unusual ways to incorporate more green at your next event. I’ve included my favorites from high impact receptions, entertainment, and clever uses of lighting. All green, and all unique.

Here’s some unusual and unique ways to incorporate more green at your next event:
