Simple Succulent Event Decor Ideas

You know the saying “sometimes less is more”? I so rarely agree with it, but this week I make the exception, and agree less can be more. When I’m putting together an event decor concept board, I love to design event concepts that are rich and dynamic. Something that will continually wow guests as the event unfolds, from hidden elements mixed into perimeter decor, to thoughtful additions in the place settings. I’m the first one to advocate for bold colors and wild prints, textures everywhere with layers of details.

But you know what? Something just hit me this week, swaying me towards a more simple design direction. Make no mistake, it may be simple in concept, but there are still plenty of unique and specific design elements at play here in this simple succulent event decor ideas board. While there may not be as many layers and targeted wow features, there is still a continuity of design here that resonates beautifully throughout.

Where I would normally go all out with a high impact entrance, I went for a white will with strategically placed air plants. Where normally a focal bar would sit, I switched gears and went for a succulents arranging bar, where theoretically guests could create their own little arrangements and take them home.  It would be fantastic to have a horticulturist on site to help recommend combinations and placements, and give guests care tips for their new plants. The table that I normally love covered with linens and colors and perfect silverware with matching stemware, is simple neutrals with succulent accents. Even the lounge is a clean white, with sandy floors and pillar candles.

I could see these simple succulent event decor ideas working from events such as weddings, to luncheons, and even social events. The succulents are powerful enough to be the focus of the event decor, but not so dominating that they couldn’t be made the second focus of the event, so there would be room for whatever the message or goal of the event was.

Here’s what I had in mind:

Moonlight Masquerade Ball in Black, Purple, and Silver

There’s never a dull moment in life, and there is always a reason to celebrate. With fall right around the corner, I thought I would take this week as an opportunity to do something different for the season. While I’m no serious fan of Halloween (gore is just too over done for my liking), I do like the idea of a thrilling dress up party, and so why not have a marvelous moonlight masquerade ball?

Now, it’s important to note that this is not just any masquerade ball. No, this is a moonlight masquerade ball. It’s darker, a bit mysterious, and a heck of a lot more dramatic. On any given day when you google “masquerade party” or any variation, the go-to images that come up are gold, green, purple the majority of the time. While that is a great combination, with a warm and inviting sense to it, I think it’s over done. So to mix things up, I’ve created a masquerade ball idea board in black, purple, and silver.

Here’s what I have in mind:

Vineyard Wedding in Shades of Plum

How many states do you know that has world class beaches, shopping, amusement parks, AND vineyards? Not too many states coming to mind, do they? Here in Florida we are lucky to have all of those, and so much more. People often forget that we have a number of great wineries here, perfect for an end of summer wedding. This week, I channeled the beauty of wineries from around the world, with shades of plum purples, to create this week’s vineyard wedding idea board. Here’s what I had in mind:

End of Summer Dinner Party Soiree in Berry Hues

Yes, I realize that TECHNICALLY summer isn’t over for a few more weeks. But you know what? It’s hot. It’s realllllly hot here in Florida. Low to mid-90s, high humidity, all sunshine, minimal rain. It’s brutal. So to take my mind off the heat, I thought about what I would do to make the most of this weekend, leading me into this week’s party ideas board. I was thinking how great it would be to have a beautiful patio, with nice rich shades of dark purples and plums. This fairytale patio would be the perfect setting for my end of summer, dinner party soiree.  Delicious berries would be the highlight of the menu. From cool drinks to sweet treats, a hint of berry could be found throughout the evening. Simple centerpieces near a vibrant, living wall of succulents with candlelight shimmering from hanging lanterns, would just make for a wonderful evening among friends and family. While I’m waving my magic wand to dream this up, I throw in an extra swish and flick to get a personal chef who would prepare this meal. Oh and a helpful staff that would help tidy up after!

Pop of Purple – Countryside Spring Wedding Ideas

I’m dreaming of a whiiitttteeeee…wedding! I’m actually dreaming of a white wedding with pops of purple. Something beautiful, with lots of fresh flowers in shades of white and cream with pops of purple. I’m thinking lilac purple with an occasional darker shade of purple mixed in. Don’t you think that would be a lovely wedding to attend on a nice spring afternoon? Imagine it, a wedding on a sunny countryside side estate, tons and tons of fresh floral flowers is everywhere, and there’s white flowy fabrics blowing in the breeze. I invasion nothing short of graceful and chic. Here’s what I had in mind:

Colorful Dinosaur Party Ideas for Girls

Girls like dinosaurs too!

I never got why boys were always the ones having the dinosaur and ninja themed parties, and girls always had to have the spa or princess themed parties. That is just absurd! Girls can like dinosaurs, ninjas, and event racing themed parties too.

And so to honor the strong, confident girls around the world who want to celebrate among dinos, I have put together this week’s inspiration board, for them. The concept was to have a colorful dinosaur birthday party for girls, which was not completely pink, purple and full of gentility.

But you know what I found? It’s actually pretty hard to find dinosaur themed birthday party posts for girls that are not full of princess crowns, tutus, and bright pink. So I thought I would incorporate lots of vibrant colors throughout to make this event perfect for the dino loving little girl that could care less about a tiara and a doesn’t mind what color her dinosaur friends are.

Elaborate Serenity Blue Hydrangea Wedding Ideas

Serenity or Rose Quartz? If you had to pick one, which would it be?

If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, let me fill you in. The 2016 Pantone Color of the Year is actually two colors: Serenity and Rose Quartz. Check them out here if you haven’t seen them already.

I can’t say I normally would have opted to use either of those colors in anything I normally do, but you know I like a good challenge. This week I set forth with the challenge to do an elaborate wedding in the tricky color: Serenity. From what I see, Serenity is a periwinkle blue-purple that is cool and very soft. Loving the softness of the color, I decided to put together an over-the-top wedding inspiration board for you this week, full of soft colors and delicate hydrangeas.

Here’s what I had in mind:

Purple and Orange Orchid Wedding Ideas

Is it winter yet?

Honestly, the weather we have been having here in Florida makes me second guess what my calendar has been telling me. It’s hot, humid, and generally pretty sunny out. It’s hard to imagine some of the fall idea boards I’ve been sharing the last few weeks in a tropical climate like this.

Naturally, I had to wonder what would be a tropical friendly fall wedding look like? Here’s what I had in mind:

Purple and Orange Orchid Wedding Ideas

As you can tell, lots of orange orchids with purple accents are what I went with.

Romantic Botanical Fall Wedding Ideas

A little over a year ago I shared with you an “Outdoor Fall Wedding Ideas” inspiration board post. I loved that inspiration board, as I love each board that I make, but I especially loved the polished perfection that inspiration board included. Very neat lines and shapes with perfectly coordinated colors made for beautiful inspiration.

This week I wanted to do something the along the same fall-lines, but different, with a more natural-beauty-but-still-refined, styled wedding. Still perfect for a fall wedding, this week’s wedding inspiration board has a whole other type of relaxed and cozy feel to it that I am enjoying immensely at the moment.

Outdoor Summer Wedding in Shades of Purple

If I see another “rustic burlap” wedding tutorial I may just give up going on Pinterest.

Hahaha, that’s a lie. I’m addicted to Pinterest. I can never give that up.

But in all seriousness, the “rustic burlap” wedding trend bores me. I don’t respond positively to brown (or tan, if that’s what it is) mesh-y material just to get that country vibe.

When I think country, I think fresh produce, beautiful wild flowers, good food, and comfortable with curtains blowing in the breeze. And I think that country can be done well. Beautifully even. It could look delicate and put together, and not look hodgepodge and craft time gone wrong. That’s the inspiration for this week’s wedding idea board. A simply beautiful country wedding.
