Pretty in Pink {wedding inspiration}

Are you a girlie girl?

I generally wouldn’t consider myself to be the traditional girlie girl. I just don’t usually go for those traditional pink and floral-y things that in usually associated with the “girlie girl” persona. But for some reason, I really was inspired by some of the soft pink and floral wedding accents I had stumbled upon while browsing Pinterest the other day.

Normally, I tend to shy away from pink weddings because honestly, it often feels like (at least to me) like the groom had nothing to do with any of the wedding and that is not really how it should be. Weddings are supposed to be about the couple as a team, and cater to both of them, not just the bride.

But sometimes the groom is open to anything and often indifferent about what colors or décor is involved. Each couple is different.

So channel your inner feminine side and enjoy the soft pinks and floral details of this Pretty in Pink wedding idea board:

How to ROCK Your Wedding Thank You Notes

Do you know what goes into the making of a good thank you note? Let me give you some pointers…

How to ROCK Your Wedding Thank You Notes

How to ROCK Your Wedding Thank You Notes

Get the tools. Actually get thank you cards. Cards that actually say “thank you”. They don’t have to be the super fancy handmade ones, though they are nice; just find some that fit in your budget. Just make sure they come with envelopes! They could be simple or super detailed, just make sure there is room to write! Oh, and invest in a good pen, you are gonna need it!

Spelling. Get it right, and keep checking. It is going to take away anything positive that comes from receiving a thank you note if your spell the recipient’s name wrong. Go online, check and make sure you got it right, or make some phone calls just to double check. Check the card, the address, all of it!

Keep track of everything! You will more than likely have a pretty solid guest list whenever your invites go out. Make a copy of it, and use it to keep track of who gave you what, and the date you sent your thank you note. This can be done digitally or on a paper copy, but just make sure to stick with it. Here is a sample I made to show you how simple your table tracking can be:

My sample table for keeping track of wedding gifts and thank you notes

My sample table for keeping track of wedding gifts and thank you notes

Speaking of that, consider following this rule: you DON’T get to use the gift until the thank you note is written, sealed and out in the mailbox! Seriously, it may sound like a pain, but it is going to help motivate you and your honey to get them done!

If you get gifts from your registries (or anywhere really) pre-wedding, try NOT to wait to get those thank you notes out, actually scratch that: DON’T WAIT. People who are sending you those gifts early will likely not be attending the wedding, and will want to know that you got your gift safely. Plus, if you wait to open/write the thank you note, you could be past the return/exchange dates if there is something wrong with the gift. Just saying!

Mean what you say, and say what you mean! And while we are at it, don’t be vague. Specifically thank your friend (or weird aunt whoever!) for the item. List it out. Say what you are going to do with it, or why you are so excited to have it.  If people gave you money, you shouldn’t really say just HOW much they gave you, but you should say what you are planning on doing with it. Are you saving it for something special? Treating yourself to a special dinner? Or putting it towards your honeymoon splurges? Let people know.

Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say

Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say

Things you may think you can do, but CAN NOT:

  • You cannot send a thank you note in the form of text, or email, or on Facebook.
  • You cannot just say thank you, even with your bestest of thank you’s in person, and skip the written card.
  • You cannot wait six months to do all this. The thank you notes should be out no later than 1 (ONE!) month from the return of your honeymoon. Don’t try and be clever: if you are having a later honeymoon, well there is really no excuse to not get them out sooner!
  • You cannot just make mass generic cards that say “thank you for this special/generous/thoughtful gift.” You just can’t. See above about being specific!
  • You cannot just talk about the gift. Thank your friends and family for being part of your lives and ultimately, celebrating this new chapter of your life. That is what is all about after all.

Things that will make people smile:

  • Enclose a picture of you and your other half from the wedding, or a picture of the two of you on your honeymoon. 4×6 prints are usually pretty cheap to print, and you can usually get them printed in less than an hour! Extra points if you have a shot of you two and your thank you note recipients! They will LOVE it.
  • Send a thank you note to your vendors and wedding planners! They (more than likely) helped contribute to your magical day and would love to hear that YOU loved their hard work.
  • Make an extra special addition to people that were in your wedding party for, well, being in your wedding party. Those roles are not cheap, and not always the easiest job! Thank them for standing by your sides and helping you get through it all!
  • While you are at it, be sure to let guests know how glad you are they came. ESPECIALLY those who traveled long distances just to make it; they will definitely appreciate it!

Just for the record, I do think that both individuals should have to be involved in the process. Not just one of you! Unless you are not sharing the gifts that is! But seriously, split up the work, it will make it fly by. And that excuse “oh I just have the worst handwriting” is not going to cut it. How often do any of us actually hand write out anything anymore? I struggle writing out a check. People will love your thank you note all the same, and if anything, maybe get a chuckle out of how crazy your handwriting has gotten. Just suck it up and DO IT!

Remember:

Be specific, make it personal, don’t forget to sign it, and be genuine! The most expensive of thank you notes cards out there cannot save you from a poorly written note!

Eggplant Purple and Flowers Wedding Ideas

I feel pretty, oh so pretty…….

Pretty would be the one word description to explain the direction I was going in when putting this design board together for you. I didn’t want anything TOO girlie, but I still wanted the wedding to be elegant with a light touch of femininity with all of the flowers.

Personally, I really love that guys are getting out of the “black, blue white and grey” color mentality for their wardrobes and trying something new with colors, but that is a whole other topic!

For this particular wedding, I envision it most likely happening in an enchanted garden, late summer or early fall. Maybe with some twinkle lights… Yeah, definitely add some twinkle lights. Twinkle lights make everything better!

Orange, Grey and White Wedding

Light, fresh, and modern. Those were the words that I had going through my mind when I created this inspiration board.

I love the floral accents throughout the wedding design. At one point I thought about substituting silver instead of a matte regular grey, but I really grey is the best choice to go with. The silver just gives it a very heavy feeling, wouldn’t you agree?

Is This The Future of Wedding “Norms”?

Humans Control the Weather with LASERS!

The crew over at SourceFed shared this interesting new story about the future of weather. Well, us controlling it at least.

Is this going to be the new future of wedding norms? Paying to have a perfectly cloudless day as you say your vows? I’m sure this is a luxury we will have eventually, but who knew it was in our foreseeable future?

How much would you pay to have your wedding completely rain free?

Blush Pink and Gold Wedding

Today I’m going to keep this intro short because, well the pictures and ideas for this week’s board are just too darn pretty. You need to see them for yourself. This wedding inspiration boards is all things blush pink and gold. There are lots of floral and gold accents, arguably, the girly-est of girly weddings.

Navy, Polka Dot and Pearl Wedding

Picture this: It’s the end of summer. You are at a lakeside country club; the sun is getting ready to set for the evening. The “I Dos” are said near a rustic dock, which is perfect for pictures after.  Your favorite vintage car is sitting out front, ready for your grand exit later that evening.

After the ceremony you walk into the banquet room at the country club and see pearly white and polka dot accents throughout the room, and a band is already playing in the background.

I’ve got a retro-y throw back wedding in mind for this event. Retro, but modern. I was trying to capture a little bit of the fifties feeling with this week’s inspiration board. A modern pearl finish cake, a little bit of pearly decorations with some polka dots thrown in for accents.

Possibly my most favorite part of this wedding would be the end. Well not the end of it, but towards the end of the reception. I LOVE the after dinner cordials bar. Set up with the right liquors, fresh hot coffee and hot chocolate, and those chocolate mint stirring sticks everyone loves. How could you not enjoy that?  Anyways, less talking more pictures! Modern & Bright Peacock Wedding Ideas

Modern & Bright Peacock Wedding Ideas

Modern & Bright Peacock Wedding Ideas

Do you love peacock feathers?  I do! They are one of my favorite color combinations. Not to mention they naturally have a shimmer and shine to them. This week’s idea board is for a modern and bright peacock wedding.

Why modern and bright? If you were to do a quick search for “peacock weddings”, you’d see tons of beautiful events shared, but so many of them are so dark! Not intentionally, but the colors that people tend to pick out of the feather usually combine into a rather dark and almost dated look.

For this idea board, I really wanted to focus on the bright and vibrant colors in a traditional peacock feather and have those be the front and center part of the design scheme.  I’d love to see this theme used for a young couple, in the middle of summer, looking for a bunch of color at their wedding, but still keeping it clean and modern looking.

Key details for this event:

  • Don’t over do the peacock feather itself – you don’t need to plaster them on everything!
  • Use pops of colors – pick your top two choices, for this event blue and green, and use the other colors as “pops” throughout the event design
  • Keep it clean – for this to work, you need to keep clean lines, keep thinking modern, and don’t get carried away with the peacock clutter that is so easy to get

Lingerie Bridal Shower Ideas {in PINK and BLACK}

Oh-la-la indeed!

Picture all of your girlfriends, champagne, lingerie, pink decor, and fun games. What doesn’t sound good about that? A lingerie bridal shower has all of that, and more!

This type of bridal shower is best for the bride with lots of girlfriends (the more the merrier) because there are so many fun games to be played at this type of shower. I love the ones were each guest brings a pair of panties or lingerie (specifically in the brides size of course!) and they all get hung up on a clothes line. The bride has to try and figure out who picked out which pair. I’ve pinned a few lingerie party games on Pinterest if you are interested in reading more ideas.

While I choose to make this idea board in pink and black, any fun girlie combination will do! Just make sure you get lots of fun décor in coordinating colors to really set the mood.

If a lingerie themed bridal shower isn’t your thing, check out my other idea boards for bridal showers here.

Key elements to this event would be:

  • Color scheme – I went with black and pink, but pink and white, or black and white, or use the brides favorite color.
  • Cute, light snacks and nibbles – we ladies are always trying to watch our figure! Besides, we are there to support the bride, not have a full meal.
  • Décor – go all out girlie! There is likely not going to be any guys there sulking in the corner from pink overload, so bring on the floral, pinks and fluff!

Mirrors and Chandeliers {Glamorous Evening Wedding Inspiration}

Mirrors and Chandeliers {Glamorous Evening Wedding Inspiration}

Mirrors and Chandeliers {Glamorous Evening Wedding Inspiration}

This week’s event inspiration is all about the glam! Mirrors and chandeliers, silver and black create this amazing event design. What I love most about this idea is that while it has a very lux feel to it, it COULD be done on a smaller scale.

Think about it, not all of the mirrors and chandeliers used are exactly the same. With a little planning, and a lot of time at flea markets and thrift shops, this event could be achieved by any DIYer out there patient enough to keep on hunting.

Key elements to this event:

  • Black and silver accents -these compliment the mirrors and chandeliers without taking the focus off of them
  • Lighting – this is a no brainer. You are going to need quite the team to hang all of these chandeliers and get them working. And mirrors are just no good without some light to reflect.
  • Evening – the later in the day, the better. To really make the glam feel of this event come to life, you are going to want the chandeliers to be the light of the night, and that just won’t happen in the afternoon lighting.
