Glow in the Dark Kids Birthday Party Ideas

Is it hot out where you are? It’s getting hot here! Warm summer nights are really heating up around here, especially as our daytime temperatures are reaching triple digits. Those high heat numbers during the day can be somewhat of a deterrent for outdoor kid’s parties. It’s hot, you’re sweating, it’s hard to stay hydrated and keep up your energy levels.

So why not throw an overnight kids birthday party with a glow in the dark theme? Grab a few black lights and tidy up your backyard, and get ready for a good time! There are lots of great ideas out there. Here’s what I had in mind:

Sun in the Sky – A Bright Blue and Yellow Summer Wedding

Don’t you just love it when inspiration comes to you when you least expect it?

I was on Pinterest the other night, pinning away fantastic ideas for future events, and came by a great board that was full of gorgeous food that was plated absolutely picture perfect.

A particular dish caught my eye – one with blues, yellow and a hint of brown.

I thought it would be such an interesting take on “wedding colors” to have food that matched your palette. So without further ado, here is what I had in mind:

Summertime Party: Blueberry and Peach Baby Shower

Summertime! It’s what inspired this week’s inspiration board. I was browsing Pinterest, and came by this incredible looking summertime peach and blueberry pie. It looked DEVINE!

Those are normally some of my favorite summer fruits, but it had never really occurred to me to mix the flavors, which got me thinking about the color combination of dark blue and peach….. Before you knew it, I decided that was going to be my theme for this week’s board. (I’ve also included it in the idea board below!)

These would be such fabulous colors to use at a summertime bridal or baby shower. Plus, you can do double duty on buying the produce fresh for eating, but also incorporate it into your décor. Here’s what I had in mind:

Up Themed Rainbow Wedding Ideas

99.9% of the time, I am not a fan of rainbow anything. No rainbow ice cream, no rainbow ribbons, shirts…. Anything except of course a nice rainbow after a storm.

What’s the .01% rainbow-ness I like? Anything “Up” related. If you missed it, (and seriously, if you have, stop reading this and go watch this movie. Right now.) Up is a Pixar movie that was released a few years ago. Yes it’s animated, and yea I know, cartoons are for kids, but this movie is worth the exception. It is by far one of my most favorite movies of all time.

I’ve had the inkling lately to go watch it again, and I’m waiting for that perfect lazy summer afternoon on the weekend to take advantage of it and watch it again. But it’s been on my mind a lot lately, and it got me thinking: how fun would this be as a summer wedding theme? It’s bright, colorful, and absolutely PERFECT for the couple that wants an outdoor wedding.

Bonus points: there are lots of DIY or cost effective options out there for this theme.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

Summer Wedding Ideas in Turquoise and Silver

When I saw this great art print by IkeStudio on Etsy, I knew it would be such a cute print to have framed and put on a wedding table, maybe near the desserts, or even near the cocktail station! It said, “Today is a perfect day to be happy”. What better quote for a wedding day is there than that?

I loved it so much I decided to use it as the main inspiration for this week’s inspiration and idea board. I’m channeling a beach or destination wedding, with bright blues and a hint of sparkle.

Luxurious Dark Purple + Gold Wedding {Inspiration}

I’m mixing things up a little today and will be introducing a color palette section in today’s inspiration board. Having set colors goes a long way in insuring cohesion and clarity in wedding or party planning, and makes the design process a lot smoother. It only made sense to add one to color inspired inspiration and idea boards.

To kick off this new plan, I really wanted to share a palette that I am fond of: dark purple and gold. It is such a regal combination, and easily brings luxurious, rich qualities to any event it is incorporated into.

Green with Foliage – Summer Wedding Inspiration

Why do couples get married in the summer?

Well, there are a few reasons: kids are out of school, so families can travel easier, there aren’t as many holidays, so time off isn’t as difficult to get, but from what I can tell, most people get married in the summer because it’s warm out. The weather is nice, there’s no worry of a snowstorm delaying flights and causing road closures. Short of some rain, the summer is logistically a great time to get married.

But the heat! The heat can sometimes be TOO hot. You don’t want to have your guests (or yourself!) covered in sweat before the ceremony even starts. So what to do? You could bring the lush foliage that grows in the summer, inside!

That was the inspiration for this week’s Green with Foliage idea board. Bringing lush, green plants indoors, creating a whole new world inside your standard ballroom, completely transforming it into an exotic garden.

Some key elements to what would really make this theme work:

  • Lots and lots of foliage. Mix and match to create texture and dimension.
  • Have background music playing while guests wait. Why not find a nature recording of a forest with a babbling brook?
  • Specialty green lighting will help amplify the effect. Use green up lighting on walls that can’t be covered otherwise.

Take a look at what I had in mind:

May the Fourth {Black and White} Star Wars Wedding – Inspiration and Ideas

Happy *ALMOST* May the Fourth!

For those of you who have NO CLUE what I’m talking about, May fourth, also known as May the Fourth, is International Star Wars Day. And if you hadn’t guessed already it’s a play on the quote “May the force be with you”.

I’m a bit of a fan girl myself, so I couldn’t let an opportunity like this pass by. I love alternative and geek weddings, so I knew I had to make one HECK of an inspiration board for this holiday.

I decided to do a play on the colors of Star Wars, the notably black, white and yellow, and turn it into a wedding for the modern fan couple. While there are lots of Star Wars details and elements involved, there are still lots of traditional elements of a wedding, like a cake, floral, etc. that have had a bit of a geeky-god-mother-twist on them.

For example, take a look at the gorgeous wedding ceremony spot I found. It completely looks like Padme Amidala could walk by any moment to head over to the lake. I love the black floral details in it, don’t you?

Let’s take a look at the inspiration in more detail:
